Where and When You Can Learn About Camp

While Clearwater has certainly changed numerous things through the years, what many families, campers and alums appreciate is that we remain loyal to old-fashioned, tried-and-true traditions. Writing letters home. Table manners. No phones or electronics at camp, so that we can enjoy the sounds of the Northwoods and each other’s company.

The same is true for our recruitment. Today, there may be Skype and Google Hangouts and numerous webinar formats – and we may even explore some of these in the future. However, the core of our recruitment will always be traveling to communities across the U.S.; meeting new prospective parents, girls and young women; and, along the way, reconnecting with current camp families and alumnae in the area. There is simply no replacement for that personal connection.

This winter and spring will be no exception. We are thrilled that we have been invited into homes from Chicago to Colorado and the Twin Cities to Massachusetts. At all those places I will be able to tell people about Clearwater’s incredible history and the continued adventure and growth opportunities for girls and young women along Tomahawk Lake.

The events stick to a traditional format, too. Each is about two hours, with some time for mingling; then a presentation I give – it used to be Sunny showing slides, now it’s a PowerPoint – and a question-and-answer session afterward.

Families and alumnae make it possible to visit various communities, and we are always looking for more people to host such events. The events can be simple to host. Clearwater can help contact area prospects and send out invitations. We certainly appreciate you inviting any prospects you know in your area, too. The only other thing I need is a space for a presentation screen and projector, which can be a living room or den. Hosts usually provide refreshments, but that can be as simple as lemonade and cookies. It’s really up to you!

So, please consider hosting a recruitment event in your home or at a restaurant or club. Volunteers are also welcome to attend these events; there is nothing more powerful than a testimonial about Clearwater from a current camper or alum. If you are interested in hosting or attending an event in your area, please just contact Melinda in the camp office: 715-356-5030 or via Melinda@clearwatercamp.org.

Throughout the year, we will continue to share with you our recruitment calendar, via our website, our Facebook page and other avenues. So, stay tuned and spread the word. Please tell families, friends and coworkers about Clearwater; our beloved camp’s future depends on us ever-increasing our Voyageur Circle.

Here below is our upcoming calendar. Please note that it changes from time to time. For example, some of these dates are different than when we posted on Facebook a week ago. Updates to the schedule will be posted on this blog as well as on Facebook. We hope to see you at one of these events!
