Beth Owen

Camp Director

Beth joins the Clearwater team as our new Camp Director starting with our 2022 summer season.

As an alum and parent of campers, Beth knows firsthand the influence a Clearwater summer has on campers and counselors in shaping their lives and values.  She spent three formative summers as a camper in the 1970’s and her twin daughters thrived as campers from the Harbor to the Point, then as leaderships and counselors.

Beth grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. She attributes her experiences and the confidence gained at Clearwater as contributing factors in attending Wellesley College. Beth received her B.A. in Economics from Wellesley and earned an M.S. in Natural Resource Policy and Administration from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from UCLA.

Beth brings a unique balance of skills and experiences to Clearwater with a solid career in business management combined with a commitment to education and passion for mentoring young adults. She comes to Clearwater with a thirteen-year career at Duke University, where she worked in finance, operations and administration, as well as served as a mentor and advisor to university applicants, matriculated students, student workers and graduates. It was her work with students that sparked her passion in making a difference for young people, especially girls and young women.

As camp director, Beth comes full circle, returning to the place that holds so many memories for her and her family. Beth believes in the power of Clearwater as an environment to enable girls and young women to challenge themselves while discovering their capabilities, resilience and worth. She is dedicated to maintaining Clearwater’s traditions while working to ensure Clearwater continues to provide relevant, transformational summer experiences for all campers.

Beth loves the natural world and is dedicated to environmental stewardship. She enjoys long walks, sunsets over the water, and a song for every occasion. In addition to her twin daughters, Beth is mother to twin sons. When not living in Minocqua, Beth lives in Durham, NC with her partner, Marty.
