Baird, Julia

Name: Julia Baird, sometimes referred to as LJ for Little Julia

Camper: 6 years

Staff: 3 years, including Leadership Summer

Hometown: Chicago, IL (proudly representing the city)

Julia graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in May of 2014 with two degrees, one in Germanic Languages and Literature and one in Educational Studies. While there, she was extremely active in Uncle Joe’s Peer Counseling and Resource Center, a confidential peer counseling devoted to providing undergraduates a safe space to talk about any issue they might be struggling with. Currently Julia serves with City Year, an educational non-profit that is devoted to curbing the high school dropout crisis in this country. Julia serves in an 8th-grade pre-algebra classroom in Jacksonville, FL.

When asked what excites her most about heading back to camp this summer, Julia says, “Clearwater is one of the most amazing places that I have ever been. I look forward to helping campers to discover their interests, break free from the stress of school and challenge themselves to become better and more confident individuals. Selfishly, I am also looking forward to meeting new people who inspire me daily and spend time with old friends who have made me who I am today. Clearwater draws a diverse group of individuals who teach others how to look at the world differently and I am excited to see the collaboration and innovation that comes out of the group that is brought together this summer. Also, I always enjoy a good muffin night and jam session around the campfire”.

Those who know Julia best describe her as goofy, kind and tenacious. So tenacious, in fact, that she has actually mastered tying her shoe with one hand!! If Julia were an animal, she would be a gazelle because she loves to run and is a free spirit.

MargauxBoles

Name: Margaux Boles

Camper: 7 years and Leadership in 2013

Staff: 2015 is her first year

Hometown: Chicago, IL

Currently, Margaux is finishing her freshman year at the University of Denver where she is majoring in business. While at school, Margaux is a member of the club field hockey team, Alpha Phi sorority and was recently elected as Sophomore Senator for student government! This summer, Margaux is most looking forward to being back in the Northwoods, sailing and waterskiing on Lady Tom and singing songs in the dining hall. If her friends were to describe her in three words, she would be funny, enthusiastic and weird. If she were to be an animal, Margaux would want to be a sea turtle so she could swim all day, everyday! At the top of Margaux’s bucket list, is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro because she thinks it would be an unbelievable experience!

Name: Britt-Marie Murphy

Camper: 4 years and Leadership

Staff: This will be Britt-Marie’s 5th summer on staff

Hometown: Milwaukee, WI

This May Britt-Marie will graduate from Columbia College of Nursing located in Milwaukee, WI with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She was a member of Pi Beta Sorority and of the Student Nurses Association. At church, she is a youth group leader who mentors high school students. She has enjoyed medical mission work in South America, too. Besides her impressive school credentials, Britt-Marie volunteers for Girls on the Run which is for girls grades 3-6 to inspire, motivate, and build confidence in themselves through lessons and activities. She also volunteers at the Children’s Hospital and nannies for a family of four children.

Her friends describe Britt-Marie as happy, caring and loving. If she were an animal, it would be a lion because lions protect their young and are very caring creatures. Parent Trap is her favorite movie because it demonstrates how awesome camp is in addition to the bond between two sisters. On a free day, Britt-Marie would spend it boating around with family and friends at their cabin on Blue Lake.

Britt-Marie looks forward to seeing all of the old campers and seeing how much they have changed throughout the year. She also loves seeing all the new faces of campers who are experiencing everything at Clearwater for the first time! And as a lover of the swim dock, she can’t wait to swim in Lake Tomahawk.

Savannah Hunnicutt

Name: Savannah Hunnicutt

Camper: 7 summers and Leadership

Staff: First year on staff

Hometown: Milwaukee, WI

Savannah graduated with a BA in English Literature and now works as a waitress and volunteers at a local nursing home. She often brings her dog, Fig, with her to visit. On a free day, you’d find Savannah going on adventures with Fig. Savannah loves the water, so if she had to be an animal it would definitely be a fish. She’s looking forward to returning to Clearwater Camp because she’ll get to spend every day in her favorite place: the Northwoods.
