We are thrilled that Clearwater’s 81st summer is in motion! Campers arrived by plane, car and bus on Wednesday, June 18th and were greeted by waiting and excited counselors and Leaderships (our counselors in training). During their first days, campers settled into their cabins and learned a little about their Northwoods surroundings, some unfamiliar noises they might hear at night – including the haunting loon’s call – and the many fun and exciting activities that await them every day. Campers enjoyed “cruising day” where they visited all the counselors at their respective activities, from sailing, to waterskiing, to riding. A counselor skit the first night also served to help make our charges familiar with our stellar staff members.
Our 135 campers this summer are coming to the shores of Tomahawk Lake from across the country and even around the world. Many of Clearwater’s campers hail from the Midwest, mostly Illinois, however we also have campers arriving from almost two dozen different states nationwide. Four campers are coming from California, for example, four more are hailing from Texas, there is one from Florida and more than a dozen are arriving from the East Coast, including New York. Our international flavor is also strong, with two campers representing Mexico and another the Dominican Republic.
Our two-week program continues to be a hit, with 27 of our youngest campers signing up for a shorter experience with Clearwater during the summer. Meanwhile, 21 campers opted to stay for the entire seven weeks – including one two-week camper from last summer – which is wonderful.
We are looking forward to a summer filled with adventure, abiding friendships and memories that will last a lifetime!
