We are looking for someone with a background in child psychology and/or social work to join our Healthcare Team as our Wellness Advisor. This person plays a very important role at camp by supporting the mental, emotional, and social health needs of our campers. Some common situations that this person might offer support with include a camper who is severely missing home and struggling to adapt to camp life, a camper with anxiety who is refusing to go on a trip,or cabinmates who are struggling to adapt to communal living. This person would also be a resource for any more heightened mental health situations (ie: depression, self harm, suicidal ideations, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Be present and available to campers during daily life of camp.
- Advise and assist counselors with campers as necessary
- In the case of a mental health challenge or emergency, collaborate with Directors and Healthcare Team to develop a plan of action
- Communicate with parents any necessary information regard camper wellbeing
- Maintain open lines of communication with Camp Nurse and Camp Director
- Understand and commit to Clearwater Camp’s Mission, Vision and Values
Qualifications
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Degree in or pursuing degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling/Psychology or similar experience working with campers and staff on mental, social and emotional health
- Desire and proven ability to positively interact, teach, build confidence and self-esteem and work with children and staff in camp setting
- Previous leadership experience
- Excellent written, organizational, and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits the following characteristics: Optimism, resilience, humility, empathy, awareness of self and others, resourcefulness, responsibility and adaptability, ability to relate to diverse groups of people
- Certification In Mental Health First Aid or equivalent is desired but not required
